The Powerful Ingredients of Moon Milk

To put it in simple forms, moon milk starts with just a base of warmed up milk, then adds various ingredients for added health benefits, and of course to turn the milk blue. There are many different recipes out there, but you want to use your preferred form of milk (including dairy-free options), with spices and oils. Some recipes use vanilla and essential oils, while others will use spices like nutmeg and cinnamon. It really depends on your tastes and preferences.

Moon milk often includes herbs as well, to boost the health benefits of this drink. Adaptogens are a popular addition, which can help reduce stress and boost your immune system.

Milk

Choose your milk base first. Whether it’s cow’s milk or a plant-based milk, it doesn’t matter! It’s no secret that a cup of warm milk before bed can help promote better sleep. You can find an amino acid called tryptophan in milk, which converts to serotonin, the big sleep regulator. Tryptophan works it’s best when combined with low amounts of protein and high in carbs. Perfect for the rest of the ingredients.

Ashwagandha

People have been using Ashwagandha for centuries to achieve balance in their lives. It is also known as Indian ginseng or winter cherry, and has a long history of use in traditional Ayurvedic medicine.

This natural herb can:

  • help with sleep
  • reduce stress levels
  • boost energy
  • improve immune system function
  • boost mental clarity
  • increase physical stamina
  • improve moon
  • reduce anxiety
  • improve memory retention
  • eliminate inflammation and joint pain

Raw Honey

Honey is a natural sweetener that has been used for centuries to relieve stress and promote sleep. It’s also an all-natural alternative to sugar and artificial sweeteners, so it can be enjoyed guilt-free! It’s a natural antibiotic and has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties.

Honey also helps promote sleep by preventing the release of adrenaline and cortisol. You’ll enjoy a good night’s sleep while reducing stress and anxiety levels.

Other benefits?

  • Supports skin health with its antibacterial properties
  • Aids in weight loss by helping to balance blood sugar levels
  • when combined with milk, helps to enable serotonin production through the amino acid tryptophan
  • promotes healthy digestion, due to the prebiotics

Spices and Herbs

Spices and herbs are a wonderful way to add flavor and nutrition to your diet. They can also be used to make moon milk.

Cinnamon has been used for centuries as a spice and medicine. It was also used in the old days to help with blood sugar control, digestion, menstrual cramps, colds, flu’s and even cancer. Today research is showing that it may be helpful in reducing stress levels and promoting sleep.

Turmeric, a staple in Indian cooking, has been shown to have many health benefits. One of those is reducing stress. In fact, the active ingredient in turmeric – curcumin – has been shown to be as effective as Prozac and Zoloft for treating depression and anxiety without any side effects.

Additionally, it appears that curcumin also helps with lowering cholesterol levels and preventing cancer cells from growing.

Turmeric can be used both internally (as a supplement) or externally (as a topical treatment), so you can start getting these amazing benefits today!

Coconut Oil

There are many benefits to coconut oil for your health, but one of the most significant is its ability to reduce stress. Coconut oil contains lauric acid which has been shown in studies to help raise serotonin levels and lower cortisol levels. It also helps regulate blood sugar levels, promote weight loss, improve heart health, and strengthen immunity among other things.

Ghee

Ghee is a butter that has been cooked until it reaches the point of being brown and clarified. The cooking process removes almost all lactose, casein, and whey proteins from the milk solids. This process makes ghee an extremely healthy fat that can be used in place of many other oils or fats in cooking. Ghee also has a higher smoke point than most oils which allows for frying at hotter temperatures without burning like olive oil does.

The health benefits of ghee are numerous – including promoting sleep! Ghee contains high amounts of butyrate acid which assists with digestion and sleep regulation. It also contains conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) which has anti-inflammatory properties to help promote restful nights.
