When coconut oil is applied to skin, Vitamin D from the sun is more readily absorbed due to the fats contained. The body synthesizes the active form of Vitamin D, calcitriol, under the skin. Because it’s a fat soluable vitamin, Vitamin D travels through the fatty cell membranes to the cell’s nucleaus. it binds with Vitamin D receptors.
